Perfect weekend for Hamad Al Asam: Pole and 2 victories at QTCC

Qatar’s Hamad Al Asam got a perfect weekend during the fourth round of Qatar Touring Car Championship held this weekend at Lusail International Circuit.On Friday, Al Asam got the pole positon with a lap time of 2:24.011 and on Saturday he won both races in front of the leader of the championship, Abdullah Al Khelaifi.Al Khelaifi,, finished second in both races and he already secured the QTCC championship with only one round to go on April.The third position in both races was for the newcomer driver of the championship, Ahmed Al Kuwari.Al Asam was extremely happy with his result during the weekend.‘First of all congratulations to Abdullah as the champion of the season. I did a hat trick so this is perfect. It took a lot time to be on the podium but finally we made it. I did the best pole position this year, the car was fantastic. I had a lot of pressure in race one, fighting in the four first laps with Adham and later on with Abdullah. In race two, I knew that my car would perform better and I enjoyed a lot, I had fun with Abdullah and at the last lap I kept the position. Hopefully I can get the second position in the final championship’ Al Asam said.Al Khelaifi plan was to secure the championship this weekend. ‘’Today I was planning to maintain at least third position to secure the championship and then push harder if I can. In first race I started to put pressure on Adham at the beginning, he had some mistakes so I planned to overtake him but unfortunately, he had a mechanical problem and had to abandon. From then, I was alone with Hamad, fighting till the end, it was really hard’ said Al Khelaifi.‘Second race was perfect as I secured the championship from now, there are 55 points between me and the second, Hamad Al Asam. It was very fun with Hamad, I had a lot of fight with him, too many passing’ ended Al Khelaifi.Ahmed Al Kuwari joined the championship for first time and he couldn’t had a better debut.‘First race was a fun one. It was nice to be involved with all these guys. It is my first time I am racing in the championship and to be in the podium it is great. Second race was nice but after the first race I realized that I had one bad injector, the engine was slow in power so I couldn’t push and catch the guys as I might take a risk and lose the engine so I decided to look after the engine and just keep and look behind me if somebody was there so I push. Now my plan is to take part again in the last round of the season and join the next season from the start’ said Al Kuwari.After the fourth round, and only one round left on 6th and 7th April, Al Khelaifi already clinched the title with 148 points. Hamad Al Asam is second with 93 points and Adham El Dib in third place with 78 points.
