NORRIS NARROWLY BEATS PIASTRI IN HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX AS McLAREN DOMINATES AGAIN

The 2025 Formula 1® Lenovo Hungarian Grand Prix delivered a thrilling finish at the Hungaroring on Sunday, August 3, as McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri went head-to-head in a tense strategic duel.

Norris took the chequered flag in 1:35:21.231 to secure his fifth win of the season, narrowly fending off a late charge from Piastri in a nail-biting finish. Just 0.698s separated the two McLarens at the line, with George Russell completing the podium for Mercedes, a further 21.916s behind. Despite a front-row start and early race lead, Charles Leclerc slipped to fourth for Ferrari and was handed a five-second penalty for erratic driving in his battle with Russell.

Dry and breezy conditions set the scene for Sunday’s 70-lap contest after a surprise pole position for Leclerc in Saturday’s qualifying, who was leading early until Norris, on a one-stop strategy, jumped ahead. Piastri then passed Leclerc for second, closing rapidly on Norris. A late lunge on Lap 69 saw Piastri lock up, but Norris held on to win by the narrowest margin, cutting Piastri's championship lead to nine points.

Further back, Leclerc’s fading pace allowed Russell to pounce for third, while Fernando Alonso scored a season-best fifth for Aston Martin. Rookie Gabriel Bortoleto impressed with a strong sixth-place finish for Kick Sauber. Lance Stroll followed in seventh to secure a valuable double points finish for Aston Martin.

Liam Lawson was eighth ahead of Max Verstappen, who endured a difficult weekend and finished ninth after an investigation. Kimi Antonelli completed the top ten, securing the final championship point for Mercedes.
