MAX VERSTAPPEN WINS FIA FORMULA 1 WORLD DRIVERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
LUSAIL, QATAR — 07 October 2023 — The first ever sprint race Saturday took place at FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2023. Fans gathered to watch their teams compete for the pole position in the two races for the day. Max Verstappen showed his exceptional skills on the track and successfully claimed the title FIA Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship for the third time. This feat marks Verstappen’s 13th win out of 16 races thus far and a historical record of 10 consecutive victories. The 100km Sprint race is an exciting format where drivers can utilise their cars’ potential and gives fans a chance to witness exhilarating action on the track. In a thrilling turn of events Redbull’s Sergio Perez experienced a crash on track after striking Alpine’s Esteban Occon; however, both drivers were safely recovered from the vehicles.
Prior to the Sprint race, FIA announced an additional 10-minute practice session. The announcement was made to ensure the Sprint race is conducted safely, and the drivers are well-acquainted with the track. After the familiarisation session, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took pole position at the Sprint shootout followed by Lando Norris (McLaren) and Max Verstappen (Redbull) respectively.
The circuit hosted a large number of fans with grandstands and Lusail Hill at full capacity. The Formula 1 Sprint Race Saturday delivered fun, excitement and racing action. Fan Zone was the centre of vibrant energy as the engaging activations fostered a sense of excitement among fans. The celebrations were taken to the next level when the world renowned artist and music producer, Alesso, performed in the Fan Zone concert arena leaving fans thoroughly entertained.
After the rigorous competition of the Sprint race, spectators are eagerly waiting for Sunday, final race day, to witness who wins the FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2023 at the Lusail International Circuit.
